Drawing in a language that is also a picture

Arabic script has always been both a language and an image. Push it far enough and the words drop away, leaving the gesture: the speed of the hand, the weight of the ink, the breath held across a single stroke.

This is not abandonment of meaning. It is meaning relocated, from what is said to how it is made.
